Warrior,
Are you going through a tough time right now?
Feeling physical pain⦠mental pain⦠maybe a tough project, a challenge, or a
competition coming up?
Iāve got a simple question that just might change your life:
Are you a Callus⦠or a Blister?
Iām coaching high school track again. And guess what? Every season, without fail, some athletes get blisters.
Ever had one?
A blister is fluid-filled skin. It hurts. It shows up when youāve done something new or
pushed too hard, too fast. Itās the bodyās way of saying, āYouāre not ready⦠yet.ā
But that pain? It isnāt a stop signāitās a comma. A pause.
Your moment to regroup and GROW.
Not the end of the roadājust a bend in the road.
That blister is your Passion Test.
Because if you keep goingāif you lean into the discomfortāyou donāt just healā¦
You build a thicker skin.
You build a callus.
And Iāve learned something powerful:
A Callus is just a Blister that Never Gave Up.
I get it.
You might say, āBut Martin⦠it hurts!ā
Trust meāIāve been there.
I wanted to be a writer. And back then?
I was just a big blister.
In school. In writing. It all hurt.
But I didnāt stop.
I showed up.
I kept typing.
I built my writing callus one painful keystroke at a time.
Now, after years of work, Iāve written my first action thriller: Bloodfeud.
And just like those track athletes or the fighters I train, Iāve earned the scars and stories to write it.
šØ It launches in ONE MONTH.

Iāve learned blisters arenāt failuresātheyāre just feedback.
Blisters happen in every area of life:
When your feet hurt from the run
When your feelings hurt from rejection
When your faith hurts from ruin
But every time, the answer is the same:
Get your reps in. A little, a lot (thatās my definition of consistency).
Thatās how calluses form.
Thatās how diamonds are made.
Thatās how champions are built.
So let me challenge you:
ā“ļø Where are you blistering right now?
ā“ļø Where do you need a callus?
ā“ļø What daily discomfort do you need to lean into?
Wish you were tougher? Then earn your callus.
WHY?
Because a Callus is Just a Blister That Never Gave Up!
And I promise you this ā someday youāll be proud of the calluses you worked hard to earn.
You show me your calluses, and Iāll tell you what you do:
š Hands of a lifter or artist
āļø Fingers of a writer or guitarist
š£ Feet of a runner or dancer
Your calluses tell the story.
They become your armor.
Repeated friction can make callusesāand champions.
So then Martin, how do I do it?
Just 4 letters: OADB
ā”ļø On A Daily Basis
A little each day is better than a lot every once in a while.
Calluses are built over timeāearned, not given.
Donāt quit now. The pain is proof youāre on the path.
Whatever your blisters are right now, I challenge you:
Apply the stress correctly. Keep going.
Let that blister become your badge of honor.
Let it harden into the callus that tells the world:
āI NEVER GAVE UP!ā
Be the Callus,
Martin Rooney
Chancellor, Lionel University
Author of Bloodfeud
P.S. Iām proud of the calluses Iāve earnedāand Bloodfeud might be the biggest one of all.
