Faculty Spotlight: Meet Lacey Ranson-Hudson
At Lionel University, our faculty bring unique professional backgrounds, real-world experience, and a passion for education to the classroom. This month, we're excited to spotlight Lacey Ranson-Hudson, whose distinguished military career, dedication to community service, and enthusiasm for history help students understand how the past continues to shape our world today.
Bringing History to Life at Lionel University
Since joining Lionel University in 2022, Lacey has taught two courses: History and History of Sports. Through these subjects, students explore more than historical dates and events. They discover how decisions, cultural movements, and significant moments in history have influenced society, athletics, and the health and wellness industry.
With a master's degree in History emphasizing education, Lacey brings a strong academic foundation and a passion for making historical concepts relevant to today's learners.

A Distinguished Military and Professional Background
Before joining Lionel University's faculty, Lacey completed an impressive 21-year career in the United States Air Force, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant.
That experience brings a unique perspective on leadership, service, discipline, and the importance of understanding history.
Beyond military service and teaching, Lacey also serves as president of a nonprofit organization, demonstrating her ongoing commitment to leadership, education, and giving back to the community.
A Passion for Teaching Adult Learners
One of the most rewarding aspects of teaching at Lionel University for Lacey is helping adult learners see history from a different perspective.
Rather than focusing exclusively on memorizing dates and historical figures, she encourages students to examine the deeper connections between past events and the world they experience today.
In particular, understanding the history of sports, health, and wellness helps aspiring exercise professionals appreciate how their industries have evolved over time.
This practical approach aligns with Lionel University's commitment to making education meaningful and relevant for working professionals, military service members, and students pursuing new career opportunities.
Continuing Education and Research Interests
A lifelong learner, Lacey continues exploring historical subjects that connect directly to her students' academic and professional interests.
Her recent educational pursuits include Women Making History: Ten Objects, Many Stories, along with enrollment in The History of Medicine: Philosophy, Science, and Psychology through the University of California, Santa Cruz.
These subjects offer valuable perspectives on how medicine, science, psychology, and historical developments influence modern approaches to health and human performance.
By connecting ongoing learning with classroom instruction, Lacey helps students recognize the relevance of history within exercise science and related professions.
Community Involvement and Life Outside the Classroom
Outside of teaching, Lacey enjoys volunteering and remaining active in community organizations.
Originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, she is a member of the Krewe of Athena, a Mardi Gras krewe that celebrates the city's rich cultural traditions.
This connection to New Orleans reflects her broader appreciation for history, community, and the traditions that bring people together.
Making an Impact Through the F.L.A.G. Program
One particularly meaningful career experience for Lacey has been partnering with Jim Rodriguez and the F.L.A.G. Program (Fly, Lower, and Gather) to bring educational opportunities to students in Hutto Independent School District in Texas.
Through this initiative, students learn about American history, proper flag etiquette, and patriotic traditions.
The experience reflects Lacey's commitment to making history accessible, engaging, and meaningful beyond the traditional classroom.
Inspiring Students Through History and Service
From a 21-year career in the Air Force to teaching history and supporting community education initiatives, Lacey Ranson-Hudson brings a wealth of experience to Lionel University.
Through engaging coursework and a commitment to lifelong learning, she encourages students to look beyond historical facts and understand the relationships between history, society, and their chosen professions.
We're proud to have Lacey as part of the Lionel University faculty community and grateful for the experience, service, and passion she brings to our students.
